The # symbol is often called the hash symbol and is used in coding. It also in American English is the pound sign. It connotes general heaviness. Kind of like many of us after Thanksgiving dinner. IT work often feels unnecessarily heavy. IT work shouldn’t be a heavy experience for either the client or the technician.
If you have ever stood in line holding a computer for repair at one of those giant box stores or had a condescending conversation with a geeky “expert” then you’ve experienced part of the less than great aspects of IT repair. WAITS wanted to create a completely different service model for doing IT. Why?
The current model generally doesn’t work that well. WAITS exists to solve IT/IS problems for you! Our goal is to solve problems that have already occurred and hopefully to proactively prevent some future problems from occurring. We want radically satisfied customers that are the best advocates for others to use us!
I was born in the 1980s and many of my early pop culture memories revolve around the shows recycled from the 70s and early 80s. Gary Coleman made famous the catch phrase “what you talkin’ about Willis?” Younger millennials probably have to google it but older millennials and older generations know that the young Gary Coleman’s character Arnold was always questioning his brother Willis. What does any of this have to do with IT?
Nothing and a few things. We all tell stories and some are better than others. When we buy technology or create a web presence we are hoping to communicate our stories. What I hope to do with WAITS is help you tell your story. To do so, I will ask you questions about what your current set up as doing well and what you would like to see changed. Bryan is an old friend for whom I’ve done work for years. He’s now a traveling author and theological teacher that travels across Africa with a missionary organization called Timothy Two. He needed a solution that would allow him to not only write while traveling sometimes in rough terrains but also use a few custom Window programs.
We researched best affordable backup solutions and created both a hardware and software solution. Internet access in some rural areas can be difficult to use so the hardware solution gave him much needed redundancy. We also created a system in case his hardware got lost or stolen during his travels. We also created a software solution using VMware for him to use some older Windows software on his Mac. This gave him the tools that he needed while traveling.
